A study conducted by Fasthosts Internet found that a third of companies are not too keen on switching their current managed hosting servers to a new provider due to the potential complications that come with the task. This is why companies also tend to do away with server upgrades.
According to the said research, companies are hesitant to make changes on their IT infrastructure because they believe that making the switch can cause irreversible consequences such as data loss.
In the said study, about 87 percent of the participant businesses maintain servers to host Web data. On the other hand, 67 percent of the respondents said that email servers are keeping them from making the switch. For the 52 percent, however, the server is useful for business data management. For the rest of the participants, a server is most useful for office document storage as well as for hosting business software.
There are a variety of issues that have been encountered by business servers within the year, the report said. These include issues with Website down time, email, slow software and failed hardware. In spite of these, however, companies still reconsider upgrading server technology even when it can come as a way to solve these problems.
Fasthost Internet also said that switching IT solutions is considered a goal for about 25 percent of the participants. The report, however, said that they are afraid to take chances because of the negative consequences. About one respondent in ten also feel that they are using outdated servers while 22 percent say they haven’t changed or even so much as updated their servers for the past three years.
