BT Retail Total Broadband customers are in for some good news. The company has announced that it will be upgrading the connections of its Retail Total Broadband customers for free. This upgrade will allow the customers to access the internet at speeds of 20Mb
Gavin Patterson, the chief executive officer of BT Retail, said that they will make higher speeds more accessible, on the lines of the government’s Digital Britain agenda. He also said that high speed broadband would have a profound effect on user’s lifestyles by providing faster and more dependable service.
4.8 million businesses and homes across the UK will benefit from this scheme as their broadband connections will be enhanced to manage speeds of 20Mb. Almost 550 telephone exchanges, which serve over 10 million homes and businesses across the UK (which accounts for approximately 40 percent of the overall customer base), will be initially eligible for this service.
BT plans to increase the coverage of this service from 40 percent to 55 percent by March 2010. An important aspect of the upgrade is that it will not only boost the download speeds, but even the upload speeds will be improved to 1Mb.
